Jonathan P. Raymond

Before joining the team at City Year, Jonathan P. Raymond served as Superintendent of the City School District of New Rochelle from July 2021 through June of 2023.

Raymond’s focus in New Rochelle, and prior to that as Superintendent in Sacramento, California, was on educating and investing in the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally. Seeing the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on children, particularly children of color, Raymond invested resources in providing more structured supports for students including adding counselors, social workers, school psychologists, academic coaches, and other adults that could create engaging relationships with students.

Raymond also sought to address the academic and social and emotional impacts of the pandemic by adding professional learning for educators, expanding enriching after school and summer programs, and accelerating partnerships with families and community organizations.  A passionate advocate for equity and system-wide change, he incorporates his experience as a labor law attorney and nonprofit leader to provide strategic and operational leadership that always puts children first.

Raymond brings insights from many years of diverse experience in education and philanthropy. Prior roles include serving as Executive Director of the Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund, Chief Accountability Officer of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system in North Carolina, Superintendent of the Sacramento City Unified School District in California, and President of the Stuart Foundation, the largest funder of K-12 education in California.
