EL Education, a national nonprofit K–12 educational publisher, proudly announces the launch of the Grade 6–8 Crew Curriculum. This innovative program, now available through Open Up Resources, extends beyond traditional Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and life skills programs and is designed to support teachers in creating engaging classrooms and fostering growth mindsets among students.
The Crew Curriculum supports the development of essential habits such as initiative, responsibility, perseverance, and collaboration while promoting service, agency, active citizenship, and community engagement. It also cultivates empathy, integrity, respect, and compassion and empowers student leadership.
The curriculum is structured around three 30-minute weekly lessons aligned with the EL Education Character Framework and CASEL Core Competencies. The comprehensive year-long curriculum includes a full scope and sequence, Flex lessons, all lesson materials, and detailed teaching notes, providing educators with a robust framework for success.
The Structure of Every Crew Lesson:
- Opening: Recommended protocols for routines and procedures
- Reading: Focused content to anchor the lesson and activity
- Main Activity: Engaging in school-related topics that encourage the sharing of ideas, goals, and hopes
- Reflection: Opportunities for student discussion and reflection

To further ensure the success of the Crew Curriculum, EL Education has developed an asynchronous course to prepare teachers, empowering them to implement the curriculum confidently and effectively.
“We are excited to launch the Grades 6–8 Crew Curriculum because it allows students to feel heard and seen,” said Scott Hartl, CEO of EL Education. “This curriculum reflects our commitment to supporting students in contributing to a better world and succeeding both academically and socially.”
“Addressing the needs of the whole child is at the heart of our efforts to increase classroom equity,” said Jason Isaacs, CEO of Open Up Resources. “We are proud to partner with EL Education in bringing the Crew Curriculum to 6–8 classrooms and provide students with more tools to better understand themselves and others.”
