Open Up High School Mathematics: Diving In
Sessions will focus on teaching with the Comprehensive Mathematics Instruction (CMI) Framework along with using the Effective Teaching Practices, Standards for Math Practice, and the Five Practices for facilitating discourse to revolutionize mathematics teaching and learning. Teachers will learn to use the Learning Cycle-based lesson design to help students develop procedural fluency with conceptual understanding by doing a deep-dive of Module One. This workshop will provide teachers with the sequence of modules and topics and demonstrate how these materials capture the vision of the Core Standards for High School Mathematics.
Open Up High School Mathematics: Deeper Dive
Sessions encourage teachers to take next steps in adjusting and improving their instruction by experiencing the curriculum in-depth. The facilitators will model how to implement the tasks focusing on the Learning Cycle and eliciting student thinking to achieve learning goals using videos from the field, student work, and modeling. Teachers will have the opportunity to dig into the big ideas of the Learning Cycle in 1-2 modules by experiencing each task and understanding the progression of learning for students.
EL Education K–8 Language Arts: Diving In
This pathway introduces educators to the EL Education K–8 Language Arts curriculum. Educators will dive into the design structure that helps students develop strong literacy skills through Module lessons, Skills Block, and ALL Block. Participants will build their understanding of the resources within the curriculum and begin planning for effective instruction and engaging students in grade-level ELA content.
EL Education K–8 Language Arts: Deeper Dive
These sessions provide teachers with the rationale, research and procedures for evidence-based practices that support strengthening ELA. Participants will build and enhance their knowledge of evidence-based practices found in OUR curricula and will do a “deep dive” into their grade level resources and lessons.
Bookworms Intensive
Bookworms Intensive (BWI) is a multi-tiered system of support that accelerates learners’ achievement in all three tiers of instruction, including special education. BWI adds explicit enhancements to the K-5 Bookworms Reading and Writing Beta and First Edition core curricula, intensifies differentiated instruction of foundational skills, and intervenes with evidence-based practices to accelerate achievement for all learners. The system includes social and emotional development with trauma-informed practices and explicit positive behavior intervention support. Importantly, BWI withdraws the enhancements and supports as students gain independence and close their gaps in achievement. Educators learn to deliver the core Bookworms curriculum an inclusive, rigorous way for ALL learners. Please join us for one of two cohorts: Primary (grades 1-2) or Intermediate (grades 3-5).
Bookworms Leadership Pathway
We know that successful curriculum implementation starts at the top, with school leaders who are ready and willing to support their teachers in this important work. In these pathway sessions, school administrators, coaches, and specialists will learn how to use a coaching focus to support teachers in each instructional block of Bookworms Reading and Writing K-5. And you’ll engage with your peers and share ideas for how you might take what you learn here and start using it right away in your school or district.
Odell High School Literacy Pathway
This pathway is designed as a cohort experience for new and experienced users of the Odell High School Literacy Program. Experts in the curriculum will guide participants through just-in-time professional learning sessions based upon the needs of the cohort. If you are a high school literacy teacher ready refine your practice this is the pathway for you.
A Customizable Professional Learning Experience
At Open Up Resources, we understand that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to the professional learning educators want and need for successful implementation. So, here’s our approach at HIVE 2023:

- Educators will register for a pathway and receive a recommended schedule for each day of HIVE.
- There will be additional sessions educators may choose to engage in for a more customized experience.
- Roundtable Activity/Discussion Sessions are available each day to engage in conversations with teachers and leaders about implementation challenges and successes, best practices, and special interests.
- Affinity Groups during lunch allow educators to gather folx from any pathway at HIVE! Create a group to chat about equitable education, 3rd grade reading, the best barbeque around, or create your own topic.
- On the final morning of HIVE, move around the ballroom to chat and share about your own passions within education during the Whole Group Breakouts.
